Overview

Project Overview

DealSplit is CAO-TECH’s own marketplace for splitting bulk purchases with neighbors. Warehouse-club prices are good but the pack sizes are not, so one person posts the pack, neighbors claim shares, and everyone pays for only their part. It runs as a native iPhone app and a web app at dealsplit.app, and it is free: DealSplit never handles the money and takes no cut.

The Challenge

Splitting a bulk buy with strangers needs trust and clear rules: the math has to be right, the last share must go to exactly one person, exact addresses must stay private, and nobody should have to hand money to an app.

Our Solution

A native SwiftUI iPhone app and a Next.js web app on one Google Cloud backend: a Cloud Run API in front of Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL), with Firebase Authentication. The business rules live in the database — share prices are computed on the server, share reservation is atomic, and row-level security guards every table, backed by an extensive automated test suite. Listings show only an approximate area, and pickup details are shared only between the organizer and a confirmed participant.
